Vanberg & DeWulf Coast to Coast Toast November 15

Please join us at the pub on November 15th to celebrate Belgian beer culture when we participate in the Vanberg & DeWulf Coast to Coast Toast!

The Coast to Coast Toast started last year as a means to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of Vanberg & DeWulf, the first company to specialize in importing Belgian beers into the United States.  Don Feinberg and Wendy Littlefield founded the company in 1982, and have since built an extensive portfolio including names such as Saison Dupont, Scaldis, Lambrucha, Lambickx, Lava, Witkap, De CamCastelain, and Contessa.  Their contribution to the American craft beer community did not stop there.  They published the first edition of The Great Beers of Belgium by Michael Jackson which is considered one of the finest educational beer books to have been written. In the 1990’s they pioneered cooking with beer education at the Culinary Institute of America and The James Beard House.  Feinberg and Littlefield then conceived of and constructed the first farmstead brewery to be built in the United States in over a century when they founded Ommegang Brewery in Cooperstown, New York.  As you can see, the contributions Vanberg & DeWulf and their owners have made to the craft beer landscape over the last 31 years are both groundbreaking and invaluable.

This event is much more than simply an anniversary celebration, it is also a chance to celebrate and enjoy the awesomeness that is Belgian beer.  Through a network of beer bars and craft beer establishments nationwide, the First Annual Coast to Coast Toast proved to be the single largest one-day celebration of Belgian beer culture in the United States in recent memory.  The hope is to make this year’s Toast even bigger, and we at The J. Clyde are planning on doing our part by bringing the event to Birmingham.

To make sure you enjoy the Coast to Coast Toast in true Belgian fashion, we will be doing a flight of fine Belgian brews accompanied by a plate of paired artisanal cheeses.  The cheeses have not been totally nailed down yet, but there will definitely be a menu of locally produced cheeses and one that will be made in-house at the pub.  The beers, on the other hand, have been confirmed and they will be the following:

  • Foret Blanche
  • Scaldis Blonde Ale Triple
  • Vicaris Generaal Dubbel
  • Monk’s Stout Dupont

Our hope is that this beer and cheese pairing will provide our patrons a unique and fun experience at this event, and we know this lineup will provide you the perfect brew to raise as craft beers lovers all over the country raise theirs during the Coast to Coast Toast.  No tickets are necessary, just come as you are and raise a chalice or two with us as we celebrate Vanberg & DeWulf and Belgian beer culture as a whole on November 15th.  It’s going to be good times and we will see you then!
