Birmingham, Alabama • March 3, 2016— The J. Clyde has been recognized as the best beer bar in Alabama in the annual Great American Beer Bars competition conducted by CraftBeer.com —the Brewers Association website for beer lovers.

With more than 4,100 small and independent craft brewers operating in the country, there are more options than ever to enjoy great beer. To help beer lovers navigate their way to the best places they can take advantage of this phenomenon, CraftBeer.com readers were recently polled to determine the best beer bar in all 50 states and Washington D.C.

“To be nominated by our wonderful customers and then confirmed by the organization that represents the amazing craft brewers as Alabama’s best beer bar affirms our mission at The J. Clyde to develop community and give back to our fellow residents. We opened our doors in 2007 to change the beer culture in a state that sadly had none. It’s a great honor for us to be recognized as we continue to lead the charge on building an Alabama craft beer community. We strive not to be the best beer bar in Alabama, but the best beer bar period!” said Jerry Hartley, Founder & Owner of The J. Clyde.

“CraftBeer.com readers know craft beer and 9,000 of them took the time to cast their vote rewarding their favorite beer bar in each state,” said Julia Herz, publisher of CraftBeer.com. “Cheers to each of the winners and the ever-increasing diversity of our local beer movement here in the U.S.”

When The J. Clyde was established in 2007 by Jerry Hartley and his family, craft beer was nearly nonexistent in the state of Alabama. Thanks to dedicated owners, an amazing staff and an abundance of passionate patrons, the pub has acted as a major catalyst for the craft beer experience that continues to grow and evolve in Birmingham. With a firm focus on quality, community and supporting the wealth of amazing brewers currently operating in Alabama, The J. Clyde looks to continue to build upon their success to have the pub and their state’s craft beer culture recognized as the best in the country.

Methodology: CraftBeer.com readers were asked to nominate their favorite craft beer bar in their state and fill out a short survey about what makes it so great including atmosphere, staff, beer selection and special events. Craft beer fans cast over 9,000 votes in total from August to December 2015.
