Anniversary Day 2 – April 7: Starr Hill Brewery Launch Party
Master Brewer Mark Thompson opened Starr Hill Brewery in Charlottesville, Virginia in September of 1999. Named after the local neighborhood and located in a building that once housed Virginia’s first craft brewing operation, Starr Hill Brewery quickly caught on with locals, craft beer lovers, and musicians/music lovers who were visiting the legendary Starr Hill Music Hall located in the same, shared building. The brewery continued to grow over time, and Thompson eventually moved from the small brewery operation on Main Street to a larger brewing facility outside of town. In addition to the acclaim that the brewery earned on a local level, this growth was made possible by the fact that Starr Hill has earned national respect with their beers accumulating many prestigious awards over the last 16 years. Starr Hill offerings are currently available throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions, and now they are adding the great state of Alabama to that distribution footprint!
Due to the ties our very own Jerry Hartley has to Charlottesville and the University of Virginia, we couldn’t possibly be more excited to host Starr Hill Brewery for their Alabama launch. To make sure you get a proper introduction to this fantastic brewery, we will be tapping the following offerings for the event:
- Grateful Pale Ale – Grateful creates a fresh spin on the American Pale Ale tradition. A strong citrusy, resinous aroma from the hops leads into a light body with subtle malt flavor. Grateful is a sessionable brew at 4.7% abv.
- King of Hop Imperial IPA (special release) – King of Hop Imperial India Pale Ale is brewed with heaps of American hops from the Pacific Northwest. This medium-bodied beer is dry-hopped to achieve an invigoratingly fresh aroma, which highlights the powerful citrus characteristics of the hops. Flavor notes of orange peel, passion fruit, grapefruit, and gooseberry lend balance to the bracingly herbal bite.
- The Love Hefeweizen – The Love is an unfiltered wheat beer, also known as a hefeweizen. It is distinguished by its extremely light body and fruity aroma, finished with spicy notes.
- Northern Lights IPA – A classic American-style India Pale Ale, Northern Lights weighs in at 52 IBUs and 6.5% ABV. Characterized by its full-flavored bitterness and poignant citrus-floral aroma, a perfect blend of barley and hops makes this a very balanced IPA. For the craft beer connoisseur, Northern Lights is a deliciously crafted piece of the heavens.
While you are enjoying these amazing beers, you will be able to meet & greet with the following members of the Starr Hill team: Brian McNelis, President & CEO; Robbie O’Cain, Brewmaster; Duke Fox, VP of Sales; Kayla Brereton, GA Sales Manager; and Willie D, AL & TN Market Manager. There will also be all sorts of brewery schwag available during the event, so you might just go home with some sweet Starr Hill stuff just for hanging out!
To make sure that you do not go hungry as you are getting acquainted with Starr Hill, we will be featuring a delicious Crawfish & Oyster Perloo as a menu special made just for our Anniversary Celebration. This dish will go beautifully with any of the hoppy Starr Hill offerings featured at this event.
Brewery launch parties have been a huge part of The J. Clyde experience over the years, so you know that we will be going all out for a launch event that happens to fall on the week of our 8th Anniversary Celebration. Mark those calendars now and we will see you all on April 7th to give Starr Hill Brewery a proper welcome to Alabama!
