Quick Update on Casks

7 October 2009 No Comment

I have received many emails and phone calls regarding The J. Clyde’s schedule of casks.  The J. Clyde is one of  two places in Alabama to serve cask ales.  For thousands of years, casks have been used to store beer and wine.

With the introduction of compressed gases, kegs have supplanted casks in much of the world.  Very few breweries these days have their own casks because kegs and bottles are so much easier to ship and manage.  “Real ale” can only be served from casks.

At the moment, we have been waiting for most of our fleet of casks to be delivered.  We are at the mercy of the breweries each having production schedules and seasonal beers which affect when we can receive filled casks.  So, while we are in limbo, I wanted to provide an update.

Here is a quick overview of where our casks are and what we might expect in them once we receive them:

  1. Durango – Derail Ale
  2. Good People – Dry Hopped Pale Ale
  3. Good People – not known
  4. Great Divide – Chocolate Yeti
  5. Great Divide – Hibernation
  6. Great Divide – not known
  7. Left Hand – not known
  8. Moylan’s – Kilt Lifter
  9. Moylan’s – Hopsickle
  10. Rogue – not known
  11. Rogue – not known
  12. Rogue – not known
  13. Terrapin – Hopsecutioner
  14. Tommyknocker – not known
  15. The J. Clyde – empty awaiting shipment to a brewery

I will provide further details as they become available so stay tuned.

Additionally, we will soon have access to casks from B. United and Bell’s.  These folks have their own casks which is good for us because we can order directly from them and not tie up our own casks.

Cheers!
