Back in December, we had a friendly Kill the Cask competition with The Nook Tavern in Huntsville.  The rules were simple:  the first bar that finished off a cask of Heavy Seas beer would be rewarded a very special keg from the brewery.  The race was incredibly close, but our guests came out with the win by less than a minute! We at The J. Clyde believe that great beer goes perfectly with any occasion, and that especially goes for Valentine’s Day.  On February 14th at 5 pm, we will be serving an indulgent three course menu (full menu below) that is sure to impress your sweetheart.

First, we at The J. Clyde would like to say that we are incredibly happy and humbled to learn that we have made DRAFT Magazine’s list of America’s 100 Best Beer Bars for the third year in a row.  We know that this would not be possible without our fantastic friends and guests, and we thank you greatly.  We would also like to extend congratulations to The Nook and Stem & Stein who also made this year’s list to represent Alabama with us.

Another week means another special cask ale for your drinking pleasure at The J. Clyde.  On Wednesday (January 25th), we will be tapping a cask of Back Forty Beer Company’s Freckle Belly India Pale Ale that has been dry hopped with whole leaf Citra hops!
Freckle Belly IPA is one of Back Forty’s newest offerings, which was previously available only in very limited amounts last summer during beerfest season.  If you are unfamiliar with Freckle Belly, here is the Back Forty’s description of the beer:

Our great city of Birmingham is in the running for Southern Living’s Tastiest Town competition, so come out to join us at The J. Clyde on Thursday, January 19th for a voting party.

This week, Good People presents a Belgian IPA that should appeal to the hopheads and Belgafreaks.  The Belgian IPA is sort of a hybrid style that blends the malt and hops of a traditional IPA with a Belgian yeast that imparts a unique flavor to the ale.  The fourth ingredient – American water from Birmingham, Alabama!  We open early today at 12pm with a Father’s Day brunch (reservations only), but stop by early if you would like to try this unique beverage.  We’ll be open ’til 7pm for tornado relief.
