As we embark on another great year at The J. Clyde, we have decided it is time to shake things up a bit with our weekly specials. So, effective on Tuesday, April 10th, we will now feature new specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
Up until this point, we have always done half price beers under 6% ABV on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  It has always been wildly successful, but recently it seems that with the new and ever expanding selection of amazing high gravity beers now available in our state that there …

Back in December, we had a friendly Kill the Cask competition with The Nook Tavern in Huntsville.  The rules were simple:  the first bar that finished off a cask of Heavy Seas beer would be rewarded a very special keg from the brewery.  The race was incredibly close, but our guests came out with the win by less than a minute! Now it is time to reward your valiant efforts.
On Wednesday, February 8th, we will be tapping the reward keg of Heavy Seas Bourbon Oak Below Decks Barleywine.   This is …

Well, the people have spoken!  Which is the best Double/Imperial IPA?  An “unscientific” panel of 16 judges tasted nine of the options currently available in Alabama.  The judges were asked to rate the beers according to the style guidelines of BJCP for aroma, appearance, taste, and mouthfeel.  On a scale from 1 to 5, each guideline is independently rated by each judge.  Judges do not know which beer they are tasting nor do they know which beers are included in the tasting until the tasting is completed.
The results were weighted …

As many folks have noticed the posted signs, today is an interesting day because for the first time The J. Clyde will be closed on Sunday.  We will continue to be closed on Sundays during 2010 which will provide a better opportunity to rebuild the back bar and add on a new women’s restroom.  Additionally, we will be implementing a few other expansions to speed up kitchen operations.  Stay tuned as we continue to work hard being the best beer restaurant in the world.

In the short term, we hope everyone …

I thought it would be interesting to post which beers in the BeerAdvocate.com Top 100 were currently available in Alabama.  Well, actually these are available at The J. Clyde which is TECHNICALLY in Alabama, but many folks say it isn’t REALLY IN Alabama, but I digress.
There are beers in this list that belong to styles, which Alabamians had never seen – quadrupels, tripels, doppelbocks, barleywines, Belgian strong dark ales, Russian imperial stouts, double IPAs.  It’s just amazing if you ask me…and what’s even more amazing is that …

Sincere thanks goes out to all of YOU SPECIAL FOLKS who voted for The J. Clyde in the Birmingham News Best 2009 Poll.
It appears we garnered enough votes to place second to Highland Bar and Grill for Best Bar in Birmingham!  Wow, that’s pretty swanky company.
Shockingly (to me at least) we didn’t win Best Beer Selection – seems like The J. Clyde has the 5th best beer selection in Birmingham according to the ordering of finalists.
I pretty much know who’s got the most and best beer in town – trust …

“If we don’t remake the brewery alive, nobody will!” – De Dolle Brouwers
My Flemish is not good nor well, but I believe these are translated as the crazy brewers.  We are very proud to have their bier on our menu.

Aged in Bordeaux Wine Casks for 18 months!

Some of the Bell’s stuff is in the previous post as well, but I include it here so the list looks BIGGER.  The other stuff came  in yesterday with more expected soon.   A couple of these items you probably won’t find in many places …

There’s not a whole lot of new activity to report this week, but we do have three new beers in.  All three are on draught.

Two from Pennichuck Brewing out of New Hampshire.
Feuerhwehrmann Schwarzbier
and
Pompier Barleywine
…and another Oktoberfestbier.

This one is from Flying Dog!  For the second year in a row, Dogtoberfest (of course!) won a Gold Medal at the Great American Beer Fest in Denver, Colorado.
Prost!
