Cahaba/Richard Force's Papa's Smokehouse Rauchbier Tapping August 2nd

On Friday, August 2nd, we will welcome Cahaba Brewing Company and award-winning homebrewer Richard Force to the pub for a special tapping of Papa’s Smokehouse Rauchbier!

Recently, Cahaba Brewing Company invited homebrewer Richard Force to brew a beer with them at their brewery.  The recipe they went with was Richard’s Papa’s Smokehouse Rauchbier, a smoked beer that recently won “Best of Show” at War of the Wort in Mississippi and a gold medal in the Smoked & Wood Aged category at the Alabama Brew Off.  Here’s the background and description that Richard gave us for this wonderful beer:

“We brewed this beer with the guys from Yellowhammer Grilling Chips. They provided the cherry wood chips that I used to smoke the malt that went into the beer. They have really good wood chips for smoking food plus it’s a locally owned company. I brew this beer as a homebrew every year so that we can have it at Thanksgiving. We do BBQ for Thanksgiving and a smoked beer pairs amazingly well with a plate of BBQ. It’s named in honor of my Papa because he was the one that taught me how to smoke BBQ. I vividly remember helping him smoke our pig for Thanksgiving when I was little. If he was still around, I know he would be very proud of it.”

We are incredibly excited to have Richard and Cahaba join us for the tapping of this special keg.  In addition to serving pours of Papa’s Smokehouse, we will also be offering the following food pairing to accompany this delicious brew:

  • Brown Sugar Bourbon Smoked Salmon: in-house smoked salmon served with sautéed asparagus and shallot rice pilaf

Papa’s Smokehouse Rauchbier is a limited production offering from Cahaba Brewing, and we are very humbled and elated to be one of the locations chosen to pour this beer.  With that said, we hope you come down to the pub on Friday to sample this tasty treat before it disappears.  When all is said and done, this will prove to be an event of great food, award-winning beer, and the best of company.  You just cannot go wrong with that combination.  See you all then!
