Burns Nicht Dinner, January 25

20 January 2016 No Comment

When the peddler people leave the streets,Burnsetching
And thirsty neighbours, neighbours meet;
As market days are wearing late,
And folk begin to take the road home,
While we sit boozing strong ale,
And getting drunk and very happy,
We don’t think of the long Scots miles,
The marshes, waters, steps and stiles,
That lie between us and our home,
Where sits our sulky, sullen dame,
Gathering her brows like a gathering storm,
Nursing her wrath, to keep it warm.

From “Tam o’ Shanter” by Robert Burns (Modern English translation)

Join us on Monday, January 25th at 5 p.m. when we recognize the life and works of celebrated Scottish poet Robert Burns at our Annual Burns Nicht Dinner!

Best known for writing the popular New Year’s anthem “Auld Lang Syne”, the acclaim of Robert Burns certainly reaches much further than that. Burns was a poet and lyricist whose countless works are credited as being a catalyst for the Romantic Period in literature during the 18th century. His literary voice that spoke of all things love, friendship, work and drink inspired movements in literature, society and politics. His influence is so long standing that not only is he still referred to as the Bard of Scotland, but he was also voted the “Greatest Scot” by the Scottish public in 2009.

To properly honor this literary genius on the day of his birth, we have planned an amazing evening filled with some of Robert Burns’ favorite things: delicious Scottish-inspired cuisine, the best of drink, fantastic entertainment and the finest of company.  The centerpiece of this event is obviously the dinner, and it will consist of the following menu that will be meticulously prepared by our chef and kitchen:

As you can see, each course has been expertly paired with a beautiful libation to properly complement and accentuate your every bite.  To further create a proper Scottish experience throughout the meal, there will also be readings of the works of Robert Burns and live musical entertainment on the bagpipes.

Cost of this dinner is $75 per person and reservations are extremely limited.  You can arrange your reservations by calling 205.939.1312, emailing us at info@jclyde.com, or by simply letting your server or bartender know the next time you are at the pub.

This is seriously one of the best events you can attend at The J. Clyde and it is easily the one that we look the most forward to each year.  If you are looking for an amazing evening out that will be truly unique, informative and entertaining, you cannot go wrong with this Burns Nicht Dinner.  Arrange those reservations as soon as possible and we cannot wait to see you all on Monday!  Slainte!
