Anniversary Day 6 – April 11: A Night of Flights with Founders Brewing

10 April 2015 No Comment

foundersglassWe might be on Day 6 of our 8 Days for 8 Years Anniversary Celebration, but there are no signs of us slowing down.  Join us on Saturday, April 11th when we tap four fantastic beers from Founders Brewing Company for a very special Flight Night event!

When we first opened our doors eight years ago, the craft beer selection around town was – in a word – modest.  This was a challenge we gladly accepted, and we poured whatever tasty brew we could to pique the interest of anyone remotely interested in a finely crafted beer.  In doing so, we found a great community of craft beer lovers and got behind a little organization called Free the Hops.  Before we knew it, the state’s beer laws started to change and amazing breweries began flooding into our great state at an almost overwhelming pace.  Our craft beer culture in Birmingham has come a long way in less than a decade, and the proof is easy to see by just looking at the vast array of handles on our tap wall.

To celebrate just how far we have come, Day 6 of our 8th Anniversary Celebration will showcase what many consider to be one of the best breweries in the country, Founders Brewing Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  For this event, we are featuring the following four vintage, limited and/or rare Founders offerings in a flight for just $8:

  • 2013 Curmudgeon Old Ale – Think classic seafaring ports, local pubs and weathered old fishermen. This old ale is brewed with molasses and an insane focus on the malt bill, then oak-aged. The result is a strong, rich, malty delight that’s deceptively smooth and drinkable.  ABV – 9.8%
  • 2013 Imperial Stout – Brewed with ten varieties of malted barley, this stout is smooth as silk, yet complex and rich in body. Serve this guy at cellar temperature. Put another log on the fire, sit back and enjoy the friendship of this ultimate winter warmer.  ABV – 10.5%
  • 2014 Rubaeus Pure Raspberry Ale – Not another boring summer wheat beer or lemonade shandy—Rübæus is Founders’ way to celebrate the season’s warmest months. Optimizing the flavor of fresh raspberries added at multiple stages during fermentation, this stunning berry red masterpiece is the perfect balance of sweet and tart. No question about it, with a hefty malt bill and 5.7% ABV, this beer is 100% Founders.
  • 2015 Blushing Monk – Blushing Monk is brewed with a ridiculous amount of raspberries and with a Belgian yeast strain that keeps our head cellar operator from sleeping for a week. It pours a stunning deep berry red and, at 9.2% ABV, has a surprising kick. The perfect dessert beer, it can be enjoyed on its own or paired with fresh cheeses, fruit, cakes and more.

Eight years ago, the idea of simply tapping a beer from Founders Brewing Company seemed like nothing more than a pipe dream.  Now, we get to celebrate the awesome reality of devoting an entire day of our 8th Anniversary Celebration to such a nationally respected and beloved brewery.  We hope that you all can join us on Saturday for an incredible Founders flight and plenty of good times.  See you all then!

While you are here enjoying this amazing flight of beers, make sure you order our Saturday 8th Anniversary menu special: Oyster Po’ Boy.
